We live in an apartment that we don’t own but across the street from us there is a sidewalk area with planter boxes that nobody takes care of. The house next to it is rented out and people don’t care to tend to land that they don’t own. It’s overgrown with invasive foxtail grass which is really bad for dogs. We just started pulling it out and I’m gonna look into some native plants to put there instead

With any pulp I always make it into an applesauce. Sometimes not even adding apples and only using the pulp fruit and adding sugar, honey or agave to flavor it if it’s not as sweet as you’d like it to be and then I keep it refrigerated. It usually doesn’t last very long in my home as my husband eats it all in one day. 😂🍉

I always cut a watermelon by cutting the ends off, putting one of the new flat sides down, and cutting the rind off top to bottom. Or if you can't get a clean cut all the way to the bottom, you can stop where it starts rounding out the other way. Then flip it back over and trim the rind you missed, also cutting top to bottom. Boom, you've got a naked melon! Then you can slice it however you like. Also I can't imagine cutting sitting down. Especially something so big. I feel like you need the leverage of height to properly cut it. But maybe that's just because I've worked in kitchens so much, it's hard to image sitting down and working lol

My neighbor works on his lawn more than a farmer would work on a produce farm. He is mowing 3 times a week, fertilizing so often and watering every single day. I don't want to judge him but I feel sad that he can't use his money and time on something more useful. I started changing my lawn to a native plant habitat and killing the grass hasn't been the easiest. Thank you for this great video.

Some unsolicited advice: If you’re going to blend-up the watermelon anyway, cut in half like you did then just SCOOP OUT THE RED FRUIT PART WITH A BIG SPOON! 🍉 can scoop it into the blender.

Another reason I’ve come to is like routines is it can make life boring. I get tired of doing the same old thing every single day. So when I have a menu to select from I’m actually happy to do the things I choose to do. It kind of goes hand in hand with the romanticizing habit I guess lol

Me and my wife had a huge tree fall down in our yard last summer during a tornado. We did what we could to protect our house from the damage BUT I was steadfast in leaving the majority of it though for the animals to use. One year later the mother tree is SPROUTING FROM HER “ dead,” TRUNK! We have seen a woodchuck yesterday too! We live in a city so this means there’s to me.

Goals

It is incredibly frustrating to try and do a low mow lawn (I need to keep it a little low for my dogs since my grass get's REALLY high) when my neighbors are the quintessential perfectly manicured American lawn kinda people. I get asked if they can mow for me which I appreciate that they think they are helping but I still have leaves in my lawn as I wanted to leave a space for the ecosystem to live. Very hard when you are the first one. 😅

Yes! This was great, awesome explanation, I appreciate it! I've had so many dudes come by and try to sell me on weed control or pesticides that are "organic made with marigolds"... I'm like you're full of it... And no I won't be buying that because I told them I liked all my plants and was growing food in my yard and started pointing at all the plants grown for food that the guys clearly didn't know what those plants even looked like. Whatever my family and I don't eat goes to the bugs that shouldn't just be constantly killed either.

Absolutely love your vlogs. I always learn so much. I have a very small patio and wanted some darker flowers and plant but I really feel like I should incorporate some native stuff because I never see any butterflies or birds. i hear those birds in the trees around but never in my patio. I have to deal with HOA so hopefully they don't get annoying because they have some pretty dumb rules around here. Prior in my patio they have just mulch so I consider any plant a win.

Here where I live in northern Utah, EVERYONE has to have perfect lawns. The Mormon church requires it. Our yard is not perfect and stands out. I don't pull most of the milkweed. It's blooming rn and is so pretty! I want more monarchs! I also planted sooooo many native species and I've never seen so many pollinators before. Our grass may not be perfect, yellow in some spots, crab grass in others because we've never used pesticides or herbicides and never fertilized our yard (although it does need it). I'm not against lawns, but to use Kentucky Bluegrass when your area doesn't support it is wild to me. Get a drought tolerant grass at the very least. Also, we've never used pesticides on anything. People really get bugs in their lawns? Some weeds are invasive though. Here I've been dealing with Hoary cress (whitetop). It's roots go down to 30 feet and spread via rhizomes like bindweed does. Planting native species has helped a little. Also please don't pull up milkweed. The monarchs need it and it's blooms are pretty! It self seeds every year pretty heavily so pulling up a few here and there is fine, especially for my native plants which I don't have a ton of each plant. Anyways, having a perfect lawn doesn't define you as a person
